Bedroom Colour

A little while back, my sister and I went for morning tea with my Mum. On our way home, we stopped at the flower sellers along Beaufort Street where Mum bought each of us a bunch. The yellow blooms I chose added a nice bright pop of colour to our bedroom where I placed them. I'd never considered using yellow in our bedroom but having these flowers beside my bed made me rather like the sunny touch it added, especially when teemed with the aqua hints already in our room.

I have also been thinking of ideas for something to hang from the ceiling hook in our room to fill in that corner and provide some visual interest. One afternoon, I was playing around with options and strung up the polka dot bunting from Grace's party to get the idea of the possible length I could work with. While the polka dots are the wrong colour for our room, I've decided to try making a new polka dot garland in more suitable colours or perhaps from something like old maps of meaningful places we've visited.

After the busy Christmas season, I'd like to look for two new wall lamps for above our bed and to decide on some new curtains. I have no idea what colour to go with to complement the white, stony greys and dark wood in our room, all I know is we need something fresh. I'm looking forward to adding the finishing touches on this room in the New Year... makeovers in our home seem to take forever!

P.S Thank you all for your comments and recommendations on my kitchen mixer post - I will read them again carefully before I decide to make a purchase...

  2. Yellow is always cheerful, as are flowers anytime! I think it's nice to go slow with your house and not rush decisions. Garland idea sounds cool with maps etc. Hope Grace is better again. That draw is just the right height for her! :) Sonia x

  3. Oh, that photo of Grace fossicking in your bedside table drawer makes me smile, Sweetie. That's exactly what Master Sammy gets up to, creating havoc. Now, every day I have to pull out both drawers and place them in the middle of the bed so he can't reach them!

I think the map garland idea is fab. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to make. J x

PS Have you investigated whether Amazon might be the go for a Kitchenaid?

  6. Sonia - Grace is much better thanks although her sleep patterns are still a bit all over the place since she's been unwell which is frustrating but understandable :)

Jane - Whenever I 'can't find' Grace, I'm almost certain she's rummaging through my drawer trying on all my bracelets! Haven't checked out Amazon yet - must say I'd be a bit wary with warranties etc. ordering something so expensive online...

Janette - I thought of your makeover when I wrote that ours was dragging on as I know you're in the same boat - life with toddlers is always busy :)

  8. What a gorgeous picture of Grace looking in your drawer, I actually have leggo in my husbands bedside table drawer, my son makes little things and stores them there away from his bothers. I also love the colour of your bed cushion in your room.

  13. Your flowers are gorgeous! I love the combination of gray and yellow, so I think that the flowers look so pretty in your room! I also like the aqua blue colors with gray or yellow. Love the polkadot garland with old maps sound awesome! No rush. I think you're just warming the ideas and you'll have a good end result, you just have to be patient. Well, that's not my strength, so I'm not sure why I'm saying this... Looking forward to your updates on your home make-over! Kaho

  16. Hi Amanda,

Love the garland idea! Pages from a map would be great. Or your could do pages out of a favourite book? I'm a total book worm though!

  18. Visiting my fav florist again hey ;) The pops of colour in your room look great. I love your paper idea, travel pages would be cool or any paper really it would be a really cheap project. Best thing is you can change it up or take it down when ever you want.

  19. WOw those yellow flowers really do look lovley! I am not one for yellow in the house either but they are a perfect touch. My 3 year old would definately love it, apparently all the best things are yellow , diggers, trucks, fluffy ducklings, bananas, wildflowers!
