On The Hunt For…

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you’ve had a great weekend and your start to this week has been good so far. With Paul back home now and able to help out with the girls in his second week of holidays, I’ve been able to spend a bit of time browsing online for some bits and pieces I’m after for around our house. Here’s what I’m on the hunt for…

… a striped throw, preferably in ivory and navy blue.  There was one that Country Road used to sell, but I took so long to make a decision, it’s now no longer available.  I’m hoping to check out one at Adairs later in the week.

…enamelware pieces.  I already have the Ikea jug above but I'd like a few enamel plates.  Donna Hay also has some lovely new enamelware pieces in her online store which I have my eye on.

…embroidered linen.  I’ve been searching on Etsy for some pieces to re-purpose and turn into other lovely things for around our home.  Last week, a cute embroidered tea towel I’d bought arrived which I plan on turning into a cushion for Grace’s room.

…a retro looking radio. While the girls nap, I like to have music on for background noise. There’s a spot on our kitchen bench I have earmarked for a small, light wood coloured radio. I love the one above but its price tag is a bit hefty for what I’m after. I’ve seen some on ebay but I need to do a bit more research before a purchase is made.

I’ll let you know if any pieces end up in my shopping trolley…

My Current Ikea ‘To Buy’ List

I think a trip to Ikea in the near future is in need. While browsing online recently, I wound up at their site and it was here that I found several new items to add to my wishlist.

Back in August, I had seen a cane armchair on Gumtree which I was disappointed to miss out on. Since then, I’ve been hunting for one with Paul still saying ‘why don’t you just find a new one you like that you won’t have to bother painting.” I do really like this one from Eco Chic, but it has a hefty price tag and I don’t want to really buy a chair online when I haven’t actually sat in it. Then, I discovered the new Ikea chair above. So long as it’s comfy when I sit in it and a suitable size, it looks perfect for what I have in mind.

The lanterns above would also be lovely on our patio where we are hoping to inject a bit of character. I like the effect of glowing candles when entertaining outdoors in the evenings and now that we’re hoping to have more barbecues, we need to add a few more around the place.

Have you been to Ikea lately? What was your most recent purchase?

Preloved Treasure Search

I wish I was one of those people who have the knack of coming across those ‘wow’ pieces in Op Shops or Ebay. As you all know, after my issues with Grace’s bed, she now has an ensemble one I'm happy with. However, I am still hunting for a bed head like the one above. Unfortunately this perfect piece was in NSW. There was a similar ideal one on Perth’s Gumtree a few weeks back but sadly I missed out on it. Even if I find a whole bed frame, I’d be happy to just use the headboard and ditch the other pieces. I’m trying to be patient, telling myself that what I’m after will show up ‘one day’.

Another piece I wish I’d been able to get my hands on was this round coffee table I spotted on Etsy. Being in the US, shipping to Australia wasn’t really an option unfortunately which is a shame as I absolutely love this piece and its design. I can picture it fitting in perfectly in our living area where we recently sold our previous heavy looking one. Once again, I’m hoping that ‘one day’ I’ll stumble across a similar one around here.

In the meantime, as a I was browsing for various pieces, I came across the cane chair above in Fremantle which I’m hoping to take a look at tomorrow. Paul doesn’t quite see its potential. ‘Who’s going to want to sit in that old chair?’ was his comment when I excitedly showed him my discovery last night. Once I explained to him that the photo didn’t show the cushions which also went with the chair (which I would recover) he warmed up a bit more to my idea. I’m thinking this chair would be good for a ‘feature armchair’ for our front lounge which is slowly starting to come along.

I’d love to know your opinion – with a makeover, does this chair have potential or am I wasting my time looking at it tomorrow?

Nest Pretty Things

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your reassuring words on my last post regarding Grace's new bed. I appreciated you taking the time to share your own experiences and advice and you have given me some great ideas. I've decided to think about things for a week or two before I make any decisions. I'll let you know what happens...

Today I wanted to share with you a gorgeous Etsy shop I stumbled upon a little while back called Nest Pretty Things. Its owner Tamar creates a range of pretty pieces of jewellery, several of which I have my eye on. I love the way Tamar's pieces are packaged and presented and the way she styles her product shots. Here are some necklaces that I am particularly drawn to...

Elk Accessories Jewellery

Images from here

I’ve been admiring the jewellery by Melbourne based Elk Accessories for some time now and am thinking of buying one of their lovely pieces with the Christmas money my Nanna gave me. Now to decide which one is my favourite... at the moment the adjustable drop necklace is the front runner. Does anyone else have any jewellery by Elk Accessories?

Herb Gardens

Image from here

I used to have a beautiful herb garden with a multitude of herbs which I loved using in my cooking. It has since been replaced by lawn (due to its awkward position) with the promise that it will be relocated in a better spot. It has yet to reappear. When we do eventually get it up and running again, I would love some of these cute herb markers from Etsy store Nina Gibson Designs. Who else out there has a herb garden?

Laura Ashley Tray

Saw this lovely scallop edged butterfly tray in Laura Ashley the other day and am still trying to decide whether or not to buy one. It is a buttery cream colour with accents of duck-egg blue. Very pretty! I love the scalloped edge. They also have a matching tiered cake stand.

Kitchen Cuteness

Currently on my wish list are these gorgeous Bird Measuring Spoons. I can picture them perched on the tiles above my cooktop. Check out Beehive Kitchenware for more kitchen cuteness.
