Hydrangea Display

This photo was taken in the garden at Cataract Gorge in Launceston, Tasmania. I was amazed at the way such varied shades of hydrangeas were growing so closely together. I would love to have a potted white hydrangea with its lush green foliage on our patio once the new paving is complete. However, something I read made me think that perhaps hydrangeas were toxic to humans. Has anyone else heard of this? I am hoping I am wrong…

  1. I love love love hydrangeas. I'm pretty sure they're not toxic. I would be very sad if they were, they are one of my fave's.

  2. I don't think I've heard that but they're so lovely. I just planted one in the garden and hope to add half a dozen more.
Cataract Gorge is gorgeous - is almost like stepping back in time and definately reminds me of my childhood. Lovely memories - I remember being on the suspension bridge with my dad and sister(I thought it was the superstition bridge) and dad scared us both by making the bridge swing dramatically from side to side. Dad has always been a joker. :)

  3. They look amazing there at the gorge, the white ones are great and I love them when they are still a little green too. I've never heard about them being toxic before.

  4. I just checked our 'Yates Garden Guide' book and it didn't list hydrangeas under toxic plants so hopefully they're safe. I wonder why I thought I'd read they were. I must be mixing them up with another 'h' starting plant :)
