Contrasting Weather

I’ve decided I’m definitely over this heat and the terrible humidity Perth has been experiencing for the last few weeks. It really saps your energy and even our poor air-conditioning struggles in this weather. However, I am grateful that all we have to contend with is heat after seeing some of the devastating images from the floods over east on the news. I cannot imagine losing all my belongings in such a way.

Yesterday evening, we had some friends around for a barbecue and we all ended up sitting around the little inflatable splash pool we bought Grace for Christmas. It’s definitely been getting a lot of use in the last few days and when Grace wakes up from her afternoon nap, I think I’ll sit in there with her too to try and cool off.

In contrast, my Mum has been emailing photos from her holiday in the UK. Seeing all the beautiful snow covered laneways and fields which look like something straight out of 'Escape To The Country' makes me long for some cooler weather…

Thank you all for your kind feedback on my blog makeover - there's still a few little things I'd like to tweak such as widening the header image but I'm having to teach myself as I go through online tutorials so any changes I do make take that little bit longer. I'm always a bit nervous fiddling around with Html code...

  3. Hi Amanda, hee hee I could have written this post myself! I am hiding inside away from this opressive heat, trying to teach myself html code so I can tweak my new blog layout. My mum has just returned from a white Christmas in Austria and I'm gazing jealously at her beautiful photos of the snow!

Fingers crossed this weather cools off soon. In the meantime enjoy your paddle in Graces pool, it looks so inviting!

PS your new blog looks lovely!

  4. That's the exact reason I got a Katrina Chambers makeover. I was way to scared to tackle myself so well done to your for giving it a go.
I have to say now that our pool is in it had been a blessing and I wonder if your little one sleeps more like my little guy is with all the swimming he is doing.

  5. I'm so with you on all of the above! My mum is on holiday in Norway at the moment, followed by a trip to Wales to visit family. I got a sms from her saying she'd just entered the Artic Circle a couple of days ago and felt very jealous! Not sure if I was more jealous over the fact that she is having a lovely overseas holiday or that she is in the freezing cold and snow and away from this horrible weather!

Thank goodness for paddling pools (and aircons)!

  6. I think even I would get in Grace's pool with the heat you guys have been experiencing. It's still crappy weather here but up to 28 on Friday apparently so that will be a shock to the system!
Your blog is looking great. I too am afraid of HTML :) xx

  7. The weather is certainly amazing, we are having hot days with thunderstorms and roof's collapsiing from the rain and hail! Grace's pool looks like a fabulous way to cool down and such a great idea. I like your new blog look and your new profile pic! I wish you all the best with your plans for 2011. xx

  9. I love the new look and tried to do it myself but kept stuffing it up which is why I got Amanda at Calico & Co to do mine. The wading pool gets a big workout at our place too given we get your weather a day after you! :)

  12. I don't mind the heat as long as I can get to a pool or the beach. Brisbane is still an hours drive from the beach so I miss that as when I lived in Sydney we went all the time. That pool for Grace looks like a great place to cool off. Your Mum's photo is beautiful. I miss travelling, so live for these images! :)

  13. Gee, this big brown land of ours is diverse, Amanda! Oppressive heat in one part, floods in another and in Hobart, a cool summer. We even had snow on the mountain on Christmas Day!

I second the suggestion about getting Katrina to help you - she's very approachable and helpful. J x

  16. Its a little nerve-wracking to fiddle with the html. A tip from a really big blogger friend of mine: create a duplicate blog to yours, and edit the html code of that one, and just transfer the changes to your real blog when you are satisfied.
I sort of envy your warm weather, I'm in the cold Western hemisphere. Not snowy cold, just unpleasantly so.

  17. I love the new blog make over! It's funny everyone gathered around Grace's pool, because my hubby and I bought one for the two of us to share during the warm months. Hopefully it won't be too long before you get some cooler weather!

  18. Hi Amanda, The weather has been a little too humid lately hasnt it? I have been in our pool so much more than normal because the pool water temp is much hotter than ever. Although, you are right, we are so lucky not to have any horrible flooding to deal with.
Hope you enjoy a relatively cooler weekend!
    hugs, laura x

  19. I was really surprised when I read you talk about the heat until I realized you live in Australia. We're in the middle of the winter over here and I would LOVE a good heat wave.

  20. How are you surviving in the warmer weather? We're also in the same region as you and being in Indonesia, it feels weird to know that in some parts of the world people are experiencing a cold weather and they wear boots and coats. I kind of enjoy the warm weather, but it's not too hot here in Indonesia. In Hoi An, Vietname where we spent 4 days, it was a bit chilly and people wore jackets. It was fun! You're so good that you're learning how to do html. I need to get a tutorial as well.
