Holiday Fun

Sorry I haven’t blogged as often as usual over the past two weeks. With Paul home on holidays, Grace and I have had a ball visiting different places around Perth with him and I didn't feel right blogging when having him home on holidays is such a rare occurrence.

Over the past fortnight, we’ve had fun taking Grace to places we’ve been meaning to visit for a while like AQWA and The Perth Zoo. However, my favourite moments we’ve spent together as a family were the simple little outings we took. One morning, we caught a ferry from South Perth across the river to the city side where we enjoyed a coffee and a wander before catching the ferry back again. Another hot morning we took Grace to the pool for a swim and then enjoyed a bucket of hot chips together. On Thursday night, we bought a takeaway wood-fired pizza and sat down by the river on our picnic blanket to enjoy it outdoors on such a lovely night. Yesterday morning, we went to one of our favourite spots by the river in East Fremantle where we sat on the shore with our coffees while Grace had a wonderful time digging in the sand and splashing around.

We’ve decided that after Paul goes to back to work on Monday, we’re going to try and do more little spontaneous things like having picnic dinners as Grace really enjoys it and it makes a nice break from the usual routine for us too.

It really has felt like a holiday for Grace and I as well as Paul these past few weeks.

  4. I think we can successfully keep the 'holiday' feel for most of the year. We just need to remind ourselves to step outside our routine and do something fun! And involving water or animals generally feels holiday to me! x

  5. Western Australia is such a beautiful place. I visited a few years ago and couldn't believe how stunning it is ... whether you are in Perth itself, at Freemantle or out at Margaret River ... its all beautiful. The colour of the water is AMAZING. You are very lucky to live there. I came back to Queensland raving about it to all my friends and really encouraged them to visit. Unfortunately it is so far away from the east coast which prevents a lot of people from travelling. A lot of people I know indicated that if they are going to spend that much time on a plane they will go overseas. Such a shame ... they don't know what they are missing. My only disappointment while there was the Perth Zoo which you have indicated you just visited. I found the animals weren't living in the best conditions ... it was quite sad. A lot of them looked really miserable as they were surrounded by concrete and steele and weren't in a natural looking environment. From the ads I saw on the TV while over there it seemed they were trying to raise a lot of funds to improve it. I really hope this has now been done and the animals are all living happily. BTW, Grace is GORGEOUS.

  6. Nik - thanks for taking the time to comment - I think you're right though about WA and distance - it definitely puts a lot of people off travelling here, but as you say, there's lots to see and do here.

  7. Nothing like having Daddy home. We had a week earlier in the year together, but unfortunately had bad weather. It was still nice to wake up and enjoy being a family though.
Perth is so beautiful! I love it's scenery and climate, and especially it's beaches. Okay and the red wine! :)
The photo of Grace in the sand is adorable.

  17. Sounds wonderful and relaxing and lovely! I am envious of your warm weather ... it's still winter here, though today is beautiful with a temp of 66 degrees F (that's 19 degrees C, I believe). I am inspired to make an effort to have more picnics and do more local "sightseeing." Enjoy the rest of your vacation.
