Latest Backyard Plans
Now that our vegetable and herb corner is up and running and with Paul currently on holidays, we've turned our attention to a neglected part of our backyard. Being hidden from view when you look out our back door, this area became a bit of a rubbish pile at times and the sand which found its way all over the path (thanks to Asha) made everything dirty.
This part of backyard is going to become Grace's corner. Paul has reduced the size of the garden bed on the right in the photo below and found new homes for all the plants we wanted to keep in the one to the left. He has also already shifted a LOT of sand. Now he needs to pull up the pavers and hire a little digging machine to move the rest of the dirt. Then we'll be extending the lawn right up to the fence and creating a little garden path from the gate around to the patio.
We're not sure yet what will end up in Grace's corner - a sandpit, a trampoline, a cubby house or perhaps a swing set. All I know is that I've earmarked a shady spot under the tree for a cute little table and chairs where I can sit with a magazine and a cuppa and watch Grace while she plays.
I'll keep you up to date with the progress of our latest project...

Oh this is going to be so cute! Love the idea of a childrens corner! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great spot it will be with all those shady trees. That's something that our garden lacks. Looks like you have been very busy!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Amanda! x
Sounds like a great idea Amanda. Looking forward to watching it unfold. Happy digging! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely spot for Grace to go outside and play and for you to sit and watch her. My girls love to play outside under the shade of the trees, I bet you'll be spending lots of time there. Have a wonderful day today sweet. I'll email you today, sorry it's so late:(. Talk soon lovely. xo
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what others do in their yard. The shady spot under a tree sounds ideal. xx
ReplyDeleteHow exciting...and there is nothing quite like enjoying a flick through a mag and a cuppa under the shade of a tree...looking forward to seeing developments :)
ReplyDeleteAmanda, it looks (and sounds) like a lovely spot for Grace to play. I can just imagine sitting with a cuppa listening to those delightful giggles :)
ReplyDeleteSounds absolutely fabulous Amanda. Lots of hard work though!! Sand is just awful to move about isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your progress shots.
xxMB
Sounds like you guys have it planned out well. I'm super jealous of your veggie patch I keep forgetting to water my poor little herbs so there's not much left of them anymore!
ReplyDeleteSounds gorgeous... love the idea of a kid's corner. We too will be doing the same, cubby, tree swing, sandpit etc! gxo
ReplyDeleteFun! We're starting to get our yard ready for gardening and it's quite the process!
ReplyDeleteIt's so exciting making something new. I love your idea of somewhere to sit and watch Grace :)
ReplyDeleteAhah, what fun!! What are you leaning toward??? What does Grace love to do?
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely idea for Grace to have her own area in the garden. Personally I'd go for a cubby house and maybe a sandpit. I look forward to seeing the changes you make to your garden.
ReplyDeleteWow Amanda what a great big project. It will be worth every hour of hard work though, and you'll reap the rewards ten fold having a play area for Grace.
ReplyDeleteWe have a trampoline and a sandpit, and in my opinion I would say it's the sandpit that's the winner of the day in terms of hours spent playing. I think age wise having done this with a 1 & 3 year old, they just love the activitiy of building and creating with sand. I change around the toys we put out too. Sometimes it's castles, other times they have a kitchen set in there with teapot, water etc. Decorating with leaves from the garden.. it's the best! I have a chair near mine too, and it's been sat on for hours I can tell you. :)
look forward to seeing what you do with it. We have a play area for the girls and it is so worth it. We only have a cheap plastic cubby but with three girls growing fast...I think I need to get Daddy to build one!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project you have! How lucky Grace is to have her little area in your backyard! You must be very excited about having a little corner with a table and chairs to relax and enjoy being outdoors while you watch your adorable Grace play. That would be a fun play date spot! Kaho
ReplyDeleteWhat a great spot under the trees, you must get a sandpit. My kids(and all the neighbours kids) have had so much fun in our pit.Just make sure it's far enough away from the backdoor so the sand shakes off before going inside.
