Picture Perfect
As many fellow bloggers did on Friday, my evening was spent watching the Royal Wedding. I actually taped the coverage so I could wait until Grace was tucked into bed to sit down and watch the ceremony in peace and quiet. Over the weekend, I've enjoyed reading other bloggers' opinons on the big event and I too loved it all, especially Kate's exquisite gown and her sister's elegant bridesmaid dress. I thought the 'Picture Perfect' headline in yesterday's Sunday Times summed the wedding up well.
After reading Nicole's post this morning on the wedding where she shared some reflections on her own wedding gown and how she came to choose it, I decided to join in the wedding gown fun too...
Six years ago when I was shopping for my wedding dress, I had something very specific in mind - white, thin straps and quite simple without a train. I tried on several dresses but nothing seemed to stand out. When the sales assistant handed me what was to be the dress I would end up buying, I almost dismissed it immediately as it was nothing like the dress I had pictured - it was ivory, strapless, had a train and was covered in traditional style lace. With nothing to lose, I decided to try it on anyway. The moment it was on, I knew it was my dress.
I still kept things rather simple with a finely edged fingertip length veil, my hair natural and wavy as I usually wear it and just a simple pretty necklace and pearl bracelet. Here's a few photos...

ReplyDeleteI love the way Kate's dress was understated - just perfect. Michelle
That is such a stunning dress Amanda. And suits you perfectly I can see why it was 'the one' as soon as you tried it on. I loved watching the wedding too, it was so exciting waiting for her to get out of the car but as soon as I could see the top I was like yippeeee it's what I had pictured as I thought she'd probably have lace sleeves and I've always loved Grace Kelly's dress so it was perfect in my opinion! I hope you had a great weekend my dear,

Grace Kelly's dress has always been one of the more elegant wedding gown's I've seen and when I saw Kate's, I too thought of hers immediately. The lace was gorgeous. I wasn't picturing it like it was but I'm so glad she chose what she did.
ReplyDeletegorgeous, Amanda... isnt it funny how the dress kinda picks YOU and not the other way around?!!? x

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress Amanda. I like the look of the fabric in the skirt. I'm not sure what I'd wear if I ever got married. Maybe a Collette Dinnigan shift dress would be simple and nice?
ReplyDeleteWho knows :)

ReplyDeleteWow, you look stunning in the dress! Isn't it funny how picking clothes work? Sometimes I experience the same thing about clothes shopping. You never know how dresses look on each person until she/he wears it. I agree on Grace Kelly comment. I didn't catch on it, but come to think of it Kate's dress totally reminds me of GK's dress and maybe that's why it looks so elegant, classy and beautiful. I enjoyed watching the wedding as well. Kate is drop dead gorgeous. I also enjoyed seeing fashion of the wedding guests. Thanks for sharing your beautiful wedding dress!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, gorgeous Amanda. And I love the idea of the royal wedding being a chance to reflect on your own big day :) Also, I thought Kate and her sister looked amazing - understated and elegant as others have said.
ReplyDeleteKaho - I enjoyed seeing what guests were wearing too, especially all the hats!
