There are a few ‘issues’ I
have lately with our bathroom which are really starting to annoy me and I’m
wondering whether anyone else out there has the same problems or if it’s just me…
The bathroom is way down
my list of favourite rooms in winter. My
biggest reason for this is WET TOWELS! I
am sick of jumping out of the shower only to have to dry myself with one that
is damp. On occasion, I’ve draped them
over a chair in front of our heater but I wish there was an easier way to
ensure warm, fluffy towels every day.
Heated towel rails? Or do they
just warm towels as opposed to drying them?
(And no, I don’t have a dryer in our laundry unfortunately).
My second issue is water
ending up all over our floor tiles. I
don’t notice it so much after I’ve had a shower - I tend to just leave a few
little wet foot prints here and there.
However, after Paul steps out of the shower, it’s like all the water
he’s used to have a shower follows him out.
Our drainage doesn’t seem to be the best in our ensuite and so there are
literally puddles of water on our floor.
This leads to another annoyance for me… a soggy, wet bathmat! All I want is something nice and dry
underfoot. Am I buying the wrong type of
bathmat? Do I need to change it daily as
I’m finding I am in this colder weather?
I’m wondering if our shower screen which sits directly on the floor
tiles as opposed to our old one which used to sit on a raised tiled surround is
contributing to this problem – I don’t seem to remember it bothering me so much
before…
So tell me, do these same issues bother you? Have you found a solution for them? Or is it just me?...

No you are not alone my friend soggy towels drive me mad too! Im looking into a heated towel rack and like you I sometimes put them near the heater if they're really wet. I have bought a floor mat runner (from Target) which is quite thick and doesnt get as soggy. I also throw them over the shower screen after showering to help them dry out a bit. If only we had underfloor heating :)
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda
ReplyDeleteI feel for you in not being happy with your bathroom.....bathrooms and laundrys are always placed on the south side of the house so naturally in this weather the room is colder and therefore the towels take alot longer to dry. I find I hang one towel on the rail at it's full width and the other over the shower at it's full width and they dry quicker that way.....we used to havethe same puddle problem in our ensuite at the old house and there was never really a solution excpet to mop up the water with the foot mat or keep the mop close by...Are you using rubber backed foot mats?? That may help.....I do feel for you because there is nothing more annoying than having a room that should be a sanctuary to relax in drive you crazy......hope you are well besides this problem.....xo
I so love that bathroom image! All three males in my house are like ducks and manage to splash water everywhere. I "dry" the bathroom off after they have finished. Mostly I use microfibre cloths, sometimes just an old towel. It is very effective at keeping the bathroom clean as well. Bathmat, I have to change everyday. Throw it in the wash with the microfibre cloths at the end of each day. I know how annoying it is!! x
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the wet towels. We have towel rings so the towels never dry properly in winter. We just hang them over our dining room chairs and then rush to put them away when someone pops over. I believe a heated towel rail works, I am just trying to convince hubby that we should get one. xx
ReplyDeleteOh this post made me laugh because I have the same problem with my husband! When I shower, there is just a few drops here and there. But when he's had a shower there is water ALL OVER the ensuite and the mat is saturated! And sadly no, I haven't found a solution.
ReplyDeleteI hear you loud and clear. We have the same problem and it drives me insane!! xx
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I always make sure we dry off in the shower before hopping out. This saves the mat and floor getting saturated.
ReplyDeleteSame problem here too! I wash towels frequently over winter. I am also wanting to buy a bath mat that doesn't need to be washed all the time. I hope you find a solution...and if you do...please let us know! xx
ReplyDeleteAhhh no...you are not alone my dear! I don't understand why no one will hang the bathmat up over the shower as i requested (talking to the teen and male of the house here...i let the 2 yr old twins off for now!)perhaps because i am always the last to get a shower for the day and they don't get the soggy bathmat. hate the wey towels too...sometimes i hang them on the line to air through the day...but that is actually when we see some sun lol!
ReplyDeleteHang in there x
Wow, it seems like everyone has the same problem! I've been thinking about the puddles since we chatted about it and I thought about a shammy rolled up and put in between the bathmat and the shower screen. Maybe that might collect the water before too much of it gets to the bathmat? Might not look all that attractive but if it solves some of the problem...
ReplyDeleteWe shower at random inconsistent times of day, depending on what we have on that day. Sometimes I'm showered by 7am, other days, I shower at lunctime or afternoon {this all usually depends on Ryder and if we;re going out that day lol}. Chris sometimes showers early or later after a run. Or he'll have random afternoon showers to freshen up during work {he works from home!}, so sometimes I shower to discover a soaking towel & bathmat and other times it dry. However, I do notice that men drip so much worse than women!! Is it laziness on their behalf or do they carry more water on their body hair??? Coz when I leave the bathroom, I can leave a fairly dry trail.....but when Chris has a shower - there are puddles & drips ALL THROUGH THE BATHROOM!!! Drives me nuts!!!!

We had the same problem with the puddles ... one day I watched hubby get out of the shower and found out why ... while I would stay on the mat to dry myself he would virtually walk around the whole ensuite. Me repeatedly telling him to stay on the mat did not work. So I decided we needed a much much bigger mat ... you can't really buy big enough traditional style bathmats (ie the ones that would match your towel sets) so while I was in Ikea I bought a couple of their really big blue and white striped mats. Our towels are navy blue so it matches in quite nicely. I've seen them used in kids bedrooms but they are perfect for the bathroom ... now no more puddles.

I too have a husband who leaves a soaking wet trail when he comes out of the shower. I sometimes wonder if he actually uses the shower cubicle or if he just showers himself in the middle of the bathroom floor. I think the only solution is separate bathrooms!
ReplyDeleteHaha, there must be some weird scientific explanation as to why husbands manage to transport litres of water with them out of the shower.. maybe it's because they're hairy?
ReplyDeleteIn our last place we had ducted heating and there was one under our towel rail... awesome. Bone dry every time. (Wish we had that here!)
