Despite a grizzly teething Sophie, the weekend just gone was in fact a great one in my eyes. While there was no sleep-in or lazing about reading the newspaper in bed, we had a mixture of relaxing moments and family fun, as well as time spent crossing off ‘to-dos’ around our house. We had a morning tea with family, caught up on washing, sold two no longer needed items on Gumtree, watched the girls cool off under the slip and slide, enjoyed a fish and chip picnic in the backyard, visited the pet shop to buy some treats for Asha (giving me half an hour of quiet time to do a few chores), menu-planned, spent the morning by the river having breakfast and splashing in the water, read a chapter of my current book and most importantly, stayed on top of things house-work wise.
For the past few
weekends, I’ve felt increasingly frustrated come Sunday evening. After a week of constant tidying, picking up
after others and trying to maintain a somewhat presentable home, come the
weekend, things seemed to fall into a heap.
Monday would roll around and I would be faced with a sink full of dishes
to stack into the dishwasher, endless washing yet to be brought in off the clothes
line, toys scattered everywhere and a start to my week that felt like I was constantly
playing ‘catch-up’.
Not today. Today I woke to a clear bench and a tidy
family room, with toys in their baskets and books on the shelves. I have an empty washing line and the
dishwasher was ready to be unstacked as soon as I woke. A
frittata for today’s lunch was waiting in the fridge and I have all the
ingredients I need for dinner tonight.
Today has been a happy day…
I hope your
Monday has started off on a good note too…
Sounds a lot better than mine Amanda! I haven't stopped today, with trips to the vet, groceries to do, plumbers to deal with and so on. Now it's wine o'clock so things have improved.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really pretty image above :)
x
If only all my Mondays could start this way!! Hope Molly is okay? Sounds like you've earn that glass of wine xx
DeleteAmanda, i hear you completely. I think some times its all day every day I am just chasing my tail to keep everything picked up and put away before they next things get brought out and then put away. Like a circle of never ending tidying....glad the rest treated you well. x
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great weekend Amanda, now if only that would happen every weekend :-) It is amazing how much better you feel and cope when everything is organised. Hope your week continues to be just as good. xx
ReplyDeleteExactly Nellie, I'm trying to work out how to make this happen every Monday :) I feel so much more relaxed when I'm organized :)
DeleteYou sound so happy after your weekend, it sounds like a lovely one.:) It is really nice starting off the week with everything all nice and organised, it's such a good feeling. I hope the rest of your week is a lovely one. xx
ReplyDeleteIm glad Im not the only one who gets excited about getting to the bottom of the laundry basket! I get so happy about it and I only have 2 to wash for, I can only imagine how often you need to do washing :) Your weekend sounds pretty perfect to me, waking up on Monday and being organised means you can relax and pretty it's another Sunday x
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda....I know exactly what you mean as I find myself quite often saying 'why do I bother' because it seems as soon as i've tidied up there has been a mess made behind me and I get quite sick of asking the girls to constantly clean their mess......however when it is all done and put away I feel much better and feel as if I can relax....I'm doing my utmost to keep on top of everything at the moment with only just over a week left until I have bub....I'm blessed I have a great hubby who is very house conscious and knows how to operate a washing machine and other house hold appliances....so if there a a few things needing doing while I'm in hospital I know he'll make sure they're done before I come home.....xo
ReplyDeleteYour Monday sounds lovely and calm. I'm looking forward to the end of school holidays for a return to a more organised home. Not enjoying the school prep though.
ReplyDeleteoh, how how how did you manage that? That exact Monday morning fiasco is my only source of misery. I get the house sparkling clean on Fridays so that the weekend is all about family time, and then wonder why I bother when I wake to a bombsite on Mondays. It can be so demoralising can't it. Not a nice way to start the week. So well done Amanda! What a beautiful start to what is sure to be a wonderful week. x
ReplyDeletetotally relatable except for the last paragraph hahaha. I'm still behind the eight-ball. I had the inlaws visiting last week which was both chaotic but had their extra hands to keep the place clean. It seems I am back in the catch-up rut again. Your post gives me hope that I will have a monday like yours one day hahaha! Perhaps getting off the computer will help me. BTW those gumnut flowers are such a gorgeous colour. We don't see nearly enough natives vased up in the house! xxx
ReplyDeleteDo you know, it's amazing what a clear bench can do. I very rarely see any clear benches here, but when I force myself to clear spaces the night before, I notice how energised I feel the next day. Here's to more happy days. x
