After much searching, we finally bought a buffet cabinet for our lounge room. I was after something in a dark coloured wood, preferably with a wine rack to add a bit of character. While Oz Design Furniture actually make a cabinet in exactly the same style as our coffee table, I didn’t want things to be look all perfectly matched and preferred to find something a bit different.
We’re happy with our choice and now I need to work out what to display on top of it. We're also trying to decide what size and type of artwork to put on this wall - one huge piece or several smaller ones? Any ideas?
I don't know how good my decorating advice is, but I can see one large piece of artwork over the sofa and a cluster of small ones over the buffet table.
ReplyDeleteLove the buffet Amanda. As far as artwork goes, can I make a suggestion? If I were painting artwork for you, I'd do a triptych. That gives you flexibility as far as placement goes, and down the track if you feel like a change you can split them up and use them in different rooms. I like to design things to be as flexible as possible. But that's just a suggestion, and I'm sure anything you choose will look fabulous as usual! xx
ReplyDeleteLove how the buffet has the built in wine storage, very nice. And how you have choosen not to have "perfectly matched' furniture.
ReplyDeleteCan I make one suggestion before you put up any artwork ? Have you got space for the lounge to move along out of the corner , maybe enough to fit a lovely floor lamp or small side table. That way the person sitting on the sofa could see out & it would add some interest in the corner. Im not one for giving advice usually , ( im the one who always needs help in the advice department). I always seem to have limited space to move anything & can never quite fit things the way I would like. I was going to email you this thought but it wasnt on your profile. No need to post it ! I enjoy reading your blog.

the buffet is great Amanda!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece Amanda, I love the wine rack! I agree with Kerri, a triptych or otherwise a cluster like this sort of thing http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/dc/4-22-reg-post-domino.jpg
ReplyDeleteI love all the light coming into your lounge room too! I hope you're having a great day!

Oh you have done well Amanda! The buffet looks lovely! I like the idea of a picture gallery that way you can display lots of artwork and photos. But a large piece of art always looks great and creates a statement! I am sure whatever you decide will look fabulous! xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous new buffet Amanda! I love how it has the wine rack as a feature. You will have so much fun finding a display for the top:) I love Kerri's triptych idea:) Enjoy your gorgeous new treasure and I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday Amanda ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeleteYAY...dont you love it when you get new piece of furniture..it almost make you want to rearrange the rest of the room because of it..lol
ReplyDeleteGorgeous piece of furniture honey...and it ties in really well with the rest of your pieces.
I would say go big...big artwork or Mirror even..would be awesome! Play around ...perhaps grab that piece of artwork you have in your entryway and sit it on the side board to give you an idea on scale and size...who knows you may even like the print there better? lol
As for the decorative pieces to go on your sideboard...I would go a nice lamp tall lamp..some books piled on top of each other..a small vase with fresh flowers, and a beautiful little ornament to sit ontop of those books.
I am looking for the same kind of inspiration once I finally get to painting that dresser I bought off ebay...so I will be waiting in anticipation to see what you do with yours :) x
Hi Amanda, found you through our gorgeous mutual friend Kerri. What a lot of fun you'll have creating the buffet-scape! I agree with Kerri about several pieces of art...but I'm not much of a minimalist so you could expect that! Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteoh wow. i think it looks perfect there. and i agree with kerri. a triptych would be amazing and it will balance with the 3 sections of the buffett....
ReplyDeletethat kerri, she is a clever girl.
:)
cant wait to see what you do!
Beautiful, love the dark wood with your white furniture! My vote would be for one larger piece above the buffett. Hope you are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Amanda, I so need somewhere to stash my wine bottles. I don't think I could add anything else, the lovely ladies above seem to have covered most of your bases. Can't wait to see what you come up with :)
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, the buffet is great but I know I could never keep the wine part filled!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to disagree with everyone else and say no to a tryptich and also no to a big picture. I reckon a few mismatched pieces in a nice informal group would look "homelier". Can I back up my opinion by telling you I hang artwork for a living??? :)
Really, it depends on your look. I think a few would look more relaxed as opposed to a single or trio which would look a lot more formal.
But then...totally up to you!! xx
love the buffet... love buying new stuff for my home too so much fun..it looks amazing Amanda
ReplyDeletei agree with the girls a big painting or split 3 canvas into threes would look great on that huge wall ..it looks great so far :)
wanted to know if you got my message the other day ..i gave you an award check my blog when you can XXX
The buffet is lovely. The style and colour work really well Amanda. I think maybe three pieces of artwork against the wall would suit the space you have there. Thank you for you blog award to me you are just the sweetest Amanda and I will happily pass on the award soon but I wanted you to know it was appreciated. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I love your new buffet. I have no advice re: hanging artwork 'cause I can never commit to what I want to hang where. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that buffet! It's almost time to find new dining room furniture and something like this would be perfect. The buffet we have now was my grandparents' from the 1940's. It's really cool (very Mad Men) but 70 years have been hard on the poor thing.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I know I have already commented on this post, but I just wanted to wish you and your gorgeous family a very happy 1st Easter with Grace. Thank you also for all of your sweet comments you are such a special friend to me Amanda. Big Easter hugs to you and I love that buffet!! ~ Tina xx
