Last night, my sister in law and I went to a Fancy Pantry cooking class at the Anna Gare Catering Kitchen in North Fremantle. It was a 'Soul Food' class in which we cooked several delicious winter dishes. Afterwards, we sat down to enjoy the meal which we had all helped prepare, finishing off with a warm Chocolate and Orange Croissant Bread and Butter Pudding.
With today's chilly weather here in Perth and inspired to try some new dishes, I've been thinking about other hearty meals to prepare before winter is over. At the moment though, I'm most inspired by delicious desserts. I'm eager to try a Chocolate Mug Cake which I've read about on several blogs such as Not Quite Nigella. Have any of you tried these? What is your favourite winter dish?

What a fun night..Have never been to a cooking class, but always wanted to. The pudding sounds divine. I have tried the mug cake and its simple and very yummy!! Nothing like a decadent dessert to cheer us up when its cold.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is an orange pudding, or for comfort my partners ham hock and vegetable soup mmmm....

Oh that sounds like such a fun thing to do Amanda! I have not tried to make a mug cake before. I would love to hear how yours turns out. We don't eat much dessert, but Sticky Date Pudding is a winter fave :) Hope you are having a wonderful week. Hugs ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, I should really do a cooking class to introduce a bit of variety. I love chocolate and orange together so that pudding sounds delish. We sometimes do a warm brownie with a choc/orange sauce when we are feeling decadent! :) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great class to do! I did a cooking class like that a few years ago and really enjoyed adding a few more recipies to my not very exciting reportoire :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I was more passionate about cooking food, not just eating it! You'll have to show us what you decide to try! Thank you for your lovely comment today sweets, you are such a great friend!

Love cooking for winter! Love stews, casseroles and camp oven cooking. My favourite winter dish though would have to be my dad's madras curry with raita and papadams and using our homegrown lamb of course! All slow coked with the aroma spreading through the house and throughout the neighbourhood. Sophie

My mouth is watering thinking of the chocolate cake!!! Emma xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun night Amanda. I make a mean sticky date pudding. I also really like rhubarb and custard in winter... Notice I have only listed desserts? lol...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the sort of night I would love, what fun! I haven't heard of mug cake so I'm off to check it out. We are big dessert fans here, I don't tend to have favourites - I like too many different things, but I do love white chocolate creme brulee, tiramisu, and Jamie Oliver's banana bread and butter pudding, the custard is made with baileys, it's so yum.
