I've read on a few others' blogs before about their Friday night family traditions. Some have a night where they make homemade pizzas together, for others it's a movie and popcorn. I'd love to start some sort of tradition like this when Grace gets older.
For now, our Friday nights are quiet nights in, enjoying a simple meal and looking forward to the weekend ahead. After tea, we relax in front of the television (I usually flick through a magazine at the same time) and we channel hop through the various home decorating and lifestyle shows. Tonight we're having Steak Sandwiches (using this recipe) and then I'll be reading the latest issue of Donna Hay and admiring all the quaint homes on Escape To The Country.
How do you spend your Friday night? Do you like a quiet night in to wind down after the week or do you prefer to go out and start enjoying the weekend ahead?

Hi Luv,
ReplyDeleteI am having a quiet one too... sitting here watching Escape to the Country as I type!! Love it!
I spent the day catching up with some gorgeous friends who I don't see enough, then more gardening for Mum and spent some time mucking around in the Jaybird...
Off to the Toodyay show tomorrow, so if you don't have anything on, it's a cute day out!
Flick xo
I'm a quiet night in kind of girl. Those sandwiches sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteLOL Amanda! You just described our Friday night routine to a tee!! We love creating traditions with our kids, I think they create a real warmth and security for children and Friday night is one we all look forward to in our home.
ReplyDeleteIt is evolving as they get older but at the moment our routine usually involves homemade pizzas (including the dough) followed by games or a movie/dvd of the kids choice (or BH&G which my kids LOVE. Once they are in bed it's Escape to the Country and 60 minute makeover for hubby & me with a little magazine flicking/blog browsing. At the moment I have a 2004 copy of Family Circle beside me which I'm getting a few recipe ideas for the weekend from! Hope you, Paul & Grace have a lovely weekend!! xxx
Hi, Amanda! I'm spending a quiet night here in my house in Jakarta. :) I actually have my friend's daughter for a sleepover. She's only two, but her parents, our friends, live only several houses down, so I figured that in case she cried or something I could take her home. Anyways, she's asleep and it's quiet now. I would love to start a family tradition for Friday night as well. I kind of like the idea of having pizzas in front of the TV and watch a movie with our kids or play a game as a family once our kids are old enough for it. For now, Friday night is a down time for me and my husband when I don't have to worry about making my older daughter get ready for school. Once school starts, weekday mornings are kind of crazy. At least for us.... Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeletewell I wish I could spend my Friday nights in the cabin in this picture. What a gorgeous place.
We just unwind on a Friday night and my kids often have friends sleeping over. They play outside until it's too dark then come in and watch a movie. My daughter loves movie nights and makes us all tickets and shows us to our seats with a torch! So funny.
Hope you have a lovely weekend
~Sam
Homemade pizzas and Better Homes & Gardens! I have three girls, they love this!
ReplyDeleteWe are a mix of staying in and going out. Now that the footy season is over (yahoo!) my husband isn't glued to the tv every Friday night! Though sometimes going out on a Friday night makes the weekend seem longer :) Have a wonderful weekend xx
ReplyDeleteAh! That house is devine!
ReplyDeleteFriday night's are the same with us usually.
Last night we had pizza and watched new episodes of Mad Men.
When we all slept in this morning and got up at 9:45am!! I actually think I overslept... Is that possible??
Your Friday night sounds wonderful Amanda, especially with the steak sandwiches!! I watched Escape to the Country too - I would have bought Rosedene, I LOVED the kitchen and all that light;) Hope you have a wonderful weekend sweetie. Hugs ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeleteWe love Friday nights too. It's BH&G with the kids, I too mag. flip or doze off, followed by escape to the country. If I can stay up late enough I'll watch 60 min makeover and complain the whole way through about the dodgy workmanship. We love it.
ReplyDeleteJust like you do! Easy dinner, glass of wine and BH&G then over to 7two for escape to country, 60 min makeover, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'd love some of those steak sandwiches, yummm! If there are any good movies out, my husband and I like to go to the movies. My son, doesn't like to hang out with us any more on Friday nights since he is 18 now, so it is usually just my husband and I.
ReplyDeleteHi AManda, we tend to just do homemade pizza and tv or a dvd, or we go out for some takeaway and then sit in front of the tv. I saw Escape to the Counrty last night too! One had the most wonderful kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI've loved reading about how you all spend your Friday nights - thanks for sharing! It's funny how many of us enjoy Escape To The Country :)
ReplyDeleteAt the moment it is all about hubby and son playing soccer but that has just finished. Maybe a Pizza night for the end of the week sounds like a lovely tradition:)
ReplyDeleteWe're always quiet on Fridays now - it always used to be a night out or a few drinks at home, but be Friday I'm exhausted and a quiet night in is just the ticket.
ReplyDeleteFridays are often a DVD and something easy for dinner. Sometimes as a treat, I feed the kids first and when Mike gets home I make beef carpaccio, which is super easy and takes hardly any time, and throw a couple of bottles of corona in the fridge. Bliss.
Hi Amanda ... it's a quiet night in for us most Friday nights...and usually a takeaway night as well. I call it 'my night' of shows... BHG / ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY ( my favourite :) ) and yes... I whinge through most of 60 MINUTE MAKEOVER because of the dodgy workmanship as well, but can't help watching the show to see what the end result will be!!!
ReplyDeleteHubby usually heads to bed after BHG and my teenage son often has a mate over, so they keep out of my hair doing there own thing. It's my favourite night of the week :)
Thanks for the peek into everyone else's evening as well :)
Great post Amanda! My friends and I often recall the days when we used to go out partying all night - now, I love nothing more than going home after work, having a home cooked meal, watching Better HOmes and Gardens (I have turned into my parents) and getting cosy on the couch with a glass of wine! Bliss!
ReplyDeleteOur Friday nights are pretty relaxing. We usually have an easy meal together. When the girls are in bed I watch BHG and Escape to the Country while having some chocolate and a nice cup of tea. It's a nice way to finish off the week. It sounds like we enjoy similar things. I hope you enjoyed your Friday night. xo
