My beauty regime is rather basic these days and as for make-up, the days I'm free of it far outweigh the days I actually wear it. At the moment, I have a few products I'm due to replace so I thought I'd turn to you all for some recommendations...
Tinted Moisturiser
Unless I'm going out somewhere extra special (and seeing as I can count the number of times I've been out at night this year child-free on one hand), I don't tend to wear foundation. If I'm home, I'll just stick to moisturiser and if I'm heading out and about, I like to use a tinted one. I've been happy with the Clarins one I've used for some time now as it's a great shade for my skin, but it doesn't have a very high SPF factor (it's only SPF 6) and it's not oil free, two things I would prefer in such a product.
Lipgloss
I find these days that even if I have other make-up on, without something on my lips, I look washed out. A simple lip gloss is my preferred option for day to day use. However, I'm yet to find 'the one'...one which is not sticky and that my hair doesn't end up plastered to, in a natural looking shade.
Fake Tan
I tan quite easily if I spend time outdoors but I've become very sun conscious and would rather turn to a tanning product to achieve that golden glow. The only one I've ever used was the Palmer's Body Bronzer, a 'build up gradually over time' type product. I'm on the hunt for one that isn't orange, doesn't streak, won't stain clothes and is easy to apply.
So ladies, do any of you have any recommendations for the above? I'd love to hear what brands and types you prefer or your thoughts on ones you've tried in the past...

Ooo I love this post...I'm such a girly girl sometimes! Let me see...Dermalogica do a nice tinted moisteriser with a high spf factor. I am currently in love with Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter. And if you can't find the right shade there, I would recommend a lipgloss in Lancome, Clarins or Dior. I do have expensive taste ;-) but I also like Rimmel for lipgloss too. Happy hunting x
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your recommendations Nicole. I do like Dermalogica products.
DeleteHi Amanda, I just wanted to come back to let you know that I got a tester for Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisteriser when I brought some makeup the other week. I was super impressed. It has an spf factor of 15 and gives a glowing natural coverage. Just wanted to let you know! Have a beautiful weekend xx PS. Love the photos of the girls in the backyard. We do that too when the sun is out :-)
DeleteI have just started using the Garnier BB cream and I'm finding I don't need to put foundation over the top, maybe just a bit of cream concealer on my pink cheecks. When I do use foundation I go for the MAC mineralise compact.
ReplyDeleteI am the same with lipgloss, I hate the stickiness and my hair always gets stuck to it. I use the Clarins Jolie Rouge Brilliant lipstick, which is glossy but not sticky and I have a pale colour that I can put on without looking in the mirror, just like lipgloss.
For fake tan I use Pod Puraceuticals which you can find at Priceline, or online. It is a good colour and doesn't smell too hideous.
I'll be interested to see what other people have to say too :)
x
Thanks for sharing Sarah. I'd heard others suggest Pod Puraceuticals for fake tan before too.
DeleteI also use the Garnier BB cream and I find it's really good. You can get it in two shades I think...I have the light one for Winter and the medium one for Summer.
ReplyDeleteJane Iredale also has a really good tinted moisturiser. It's SPF 15 and has had good consumer ratings but I'm not keen on the smell of it...that might just be me though.
Olay have Touch Of Sun moisturiser that's pretty good and then there's Dove, which is also SPF 15 and isn't too bad...the best thing about them is they're available at the supermarket or Priceline....It all depends on personal taste though...
As for lipgloss, have you tried Burt's Bees. They have tinted ones that aren't too sticky. I hate that gluggy feel on my lips too.
The best fake tanner I've used is St Tropez Whipped bronze. It's walnut brown in colour, not orange at all...it's a foam and you really should wear gloves when you apply it.
I like it because it's tinted when you put it on so you can see if you've missed bits on your legs
Hope that's a help Amanda...
Lesley
xx
Thanks for taking the time to comment so in depth Lesley. Haven't tried Burt's Bees so will keep it in mind. The St Tropez product sounds great being tinted to make application easier :)
DeleteI wrote a post on what tinted moisturiser and lip gloss I use about a year ago!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to use toxic -chemical free beauty products on my face and body as much as possible, so I stay well away from most commercial brands.
I use Kora tinted moisturiser ever day which is one of the best I have found and Burt's bees tinted lipgloss.. That's my everyday face. When I am going out I'll add suvana natural mascara, Jane Iredale bronzer or powder and a bit of cream blush on the cheeks (yet to find a totally natural one but bloom check tint in shy is my favourite).
Although I have to admit I have not worn any make up for months now (not much point when you are in bed all day!)
I would love to get into more natural/toxic free products too. Will have to investigate Kora a bit more...

Garnier BB cream light and M.A.C Cremesheen Glass (Deelight) are my favorite products!
ReplyDeletegreat post! i'm reading all the answers with much interest. :)
ReplyDeletei don't really have anything to add..but i have tried a few different tinted moisturisers with SPF - with the SPF being the main selling point and they haven't been too good. at the moment i quite like the natio tinted moisturiser, but wouldn't mind finding something with a bit more coverage.
lipglosses - i totally understand the stickiness, blah. i personally find the lancome and becca ones too sticky. but i do use a lancome lipstick which is great.
i can't wait to hear which ones you decide to try and a review on them in a future post! :)
Will be sure to report back when I try some out :)
DeleteHi Amanda, I'm not too much of a make up girl but I too wear tinted moisturiser. I experimented for a long time with various brands until I stumbled upon the brand called Paula's choice by the 'cosmetics cop' Paula Begoun. I haven't looked back as it hasn't made my skin break out and it matches my skin colour perfectly (I have a very fair skin). I believe you can only purchase these things online www.paulaschoice.com.au. I like the sound of Kora products, should look them up (although some natural ingredients can be irritants). As for the lip gloss, I like Estee Lauder's in Honey (in a little tube, not too sticky). No idea about the bronzers, never used one :).
ReplyDeleteMaja xx
I hadn't heard of Paula's Choice before so thanks for sharing that one!
DeleteOoh I love these posts as well! I never wear foundation, I think if you have good skin don't bother with it. My favourite tinted moisturiser would have to be Laura Mercier which is SPF 20 although I am keen to try the Kora one. I am slowly making my way over to clean beauty products! Lip gloss I love Nars Oasis for everyday wear and Srinigar for nighttime .i have never tried fake tan but I have quite olive skin. Anyone looking for a clean mascara the Lavera one is excellent. xx
ReplyDeleteLaura Mercier is actually the one I was most keen to try next having read lots of favourable reports online for it. Thanks for all your suggestions.
DeleteI'm totally bumping this post! I'm an engineer so in the sun quite a bit - i've been looking for a tinted sunscreen for a long time! I've found a letan tinted sunscreen that seems quite good - hard to perfectly match skin colour. From what you have all said i'm going to try Laura Mercier and Kora.
ReplyDeleteFor fake tan - I like the Natio fake tan. It doesn't smell like fake tan and doesn't stain clothes or sheets. It also gives a lovely colour. As you can't see it, you just have to be cautious when you put it on and may sure it rubs in!
Anyone else - what do you use??
I too love these posts! I try to stay as natural as possible with my beauty products so I use Kora Tinted Moisturiser for daytime wear.(David Jones or Online) Burts Bees Tinted Lipglosses are fabulous!(Priceline) St Tropez Naturals (David Jones) is a lovely self tanner though isn't tinted so i struggle alittle with application. (I only just started using tanner last summer, too lasy:-)Looking forward to seeing what you try and your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought much in the lines of these in ages but when I do buy the odd bit of makeup I head to our local organic shop and usually try some of their chemical free products. The one I have tried most recently is Lavera foundation powder and I really love how soft if feels on my skin, it just covers and doesn't feel caked on. x
