The Good, The Bad And The Exciting

Today started off on such a good note.  Following my new rule of not venturing out of the house on a Monday (I’ve found following a busy weekend, my girls need to lay low), we’ve stayed home and simply pottered.  Several loads of washing have gone through the machine and been hung out, biscuits have been baked, floors vacuumed and tea is already half prepared.   The girls have spent time happily in the sand patch, made endless play dough creations and camped out in the play tent with their stuffed toys.

However, after a much needed snooze, Grace woke in an even crankier mood and her over the top crying awoke Sophie mid-nap.  I was not a happy mama and angrily sent her outdoors until she had settled herself down.  Sophie refused to go back to sleep though and has become increasingly over-tired as the day has progressed.  Not fun.  To add to the negatives at the moment, I have recently found out that the painful elbow I was putting up with was not a repetitive strain injury after all, but instead, together with a stiff and inflamed knee is part of a rheumatoid arthritis flare up, something I have not experienced in over twenty years.  I am now on anti-inflammatory medication and spend short bouts each day with my knee elevated.  Our heat pack has become my best friend.

As for the exciting, tomorrow Grace has orientation day at her kindy.   Just a half an hour ‘meet the teacher and tour' of her new classroom, but after months of kindy talk, it is such an important event in this household. We're looking forward to seeing the environment she will be a part of next year and to getting a glimpse into this first big milestone of her schooling days.

How has your start to the week shaped up?

  1. I like your Monday rule - I try to do this one day during the week. A day at home spent pottering, catching up on housework etc and for the boys just to play and run around in the garden. I hope the rest of your week is an easier one. Elaina

    1. Fortunately Grace's doesn't have kindy on Monday next year so we'll be able to continue this tradition :)

  3. Just another Manic Monday... I have that same rule Amanda! I find Mondays as hectic as the weekend. Here's hoping the rest of your week is 'cranky' free :)

  4. My eldest boy was always cranky when he woke up from a nap, he always needed up to half an hour snuggle on my lap to wake up properly and then he'd be fine. Just as well he was a first child!

  5. I love the idea of staying home on a Monday..I may have to implement that here.
Good luck with the kindy visit, we are still awhile away from that yet.
    Hope your pain eases Amanda.

  6. Oh no it's no fun at all when they wake up cranky, it's so hard to comfort them going outside and getting some fresh air sounds like good idea I hope she felt better. I'm sorry to hear that your rheumatoid arthritis is flaring up again, I hope that the medication helps with the pain. Enjoy tomorrow with Grace, how exciting for the both of you:) The week so far so good but it's going to be busy tomorrow is presentation night, helping out on Wednesday at school and then break up Friday and lots of present making in between but we'll get there:) Enjoy your week. xx

  9. Oh no, hate it when the overtireds kick in. And what horrible news about your knee and elbow, that is not nice at all to hear. Hopefully it stops with those two joints.

I bet Grace is excited about visiting Kindy, hope it's a fun time and a better day all round.

  10. I can imagine it would get very very tedious and tiring having the little ones grumbly over being either tired/woken up or just in a crabby mood.
Sorry to hear about your knee Amanda. I hope you can get it sorted out quickly. Heat packs are the bomb! After my neck injury a few years ago they are still the only thing that relieves pain.

  11. You poor thing...i find my mondays are often like this and the twins seem to feed off each others grumpiness...they never seem to sleep well either. Don't you hate when you have a relatively productive and calm morning but nap time just doesn't meet expectations lol!in this weather my solution is water play..seems to perk them up a little.
sorry to hear about your knee and elbow...must be awful especially with little ones to run around for!
Hope your week gets better...we have mystery temperatures here with the girls so hoping we can sort them out!xx

  12. Oh I remember those days Amanda...they do pass but they are so wearing
Sorry to hear about the arthritis - hopefully you get on top of all that inflammation soon and things settle down.
Is kinder in actual school in WA? My little boy starts 3 day a week kinder here next year - in school, in uniform (he's 4)... he's excited in the abstract but the pre-kinder sessions have not been a big hit (I crafted more than him!!)

    1. Here in WA, kindy is basically for 4 year olds, pre-primary for 5 year olds and year 1 starts for 6 year olds. Grace will be doing 2.5 days a week but they're fairly long hours - she will be exhausted at the end of a kindy day I'm sure :)

  13. I know so well how those bad days can seem to get worse and worse sometimes. I do hope your week improves and I'm sorry to hear about that arthritis flaring up.
I almost never go out on a Monday. I just find I need the rest after the weekend (as well as more cleaning to do!)

  14. I'm so sorry to hear about your arthritis. I hope it calms down for you quickly with medication.

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you and Grace at Kindy orientation. I can understand that there will be mixed emotions. Happy...sad...anxious.

    1. I'm not all that keen on medication but the specialist stressed it was important to get things under control. I'm due for a visit to my naturopath though so will see if there are any natural remedies she suggests.

Your comment on kindy was spot on x

  15. Exciting times ahead with Kindy, hope the orientation went well. We do the same on Monday's. Never venture out (except for dropping the 2 boys at school) then home for the day with the girls to have a quiet day after the weekend. We have had kindy this year for one of my girls & I'm really making the most of those quiet days at home before Pre-Primary next year. I'm really going to miss watching my girls play together each day...Sorry to hear of your arthritis, hope the antibiotics are doing the trick & your pain has eased.x.
