The Missing Cardigan
When Grace was born, Mum passed on a few little hand knitted items of clothing that I had worn myself as a baby. One piece was a gorgeous pink cardigan with pretty detailing made of beautiful soft baby wool.
When I eventually went to put it on Grace, I searched high and low and couldn't find it anywhere. I was adamant Mum mustn't have given it to me. She was positive she had. It was only recently whilst having a big tidy up that I discovered the cardigan down the bottom of a bag containing all the cards we'd been given when Grace was born. It must have gotten mixed up in there when Mum gave it to me in the hospital.
Unfortunately Grace hasn't had the wear out of it as I would have liked but I did dress her in it a few times before it became too small.
Do you have any special piece or keepsake from your childhood which has been saved for your own son or daughter?

That is such a beautiful cardi - the perfect little-girl item. It's one for the 'keepsake' box for sure. I just want to snuggle it against my cheek. x
ReplyDeleteAmanda that is gorgeous, and I like the sentimental side too. Grace is a little doll, just beautiful. x PS - glad you found it!
ReplyDeleteSonia - Mum was pleased when I found it too!
ReplyDeleteShe looks soooooo beautiful in it too! You should post a picture of yourself when you were Gracie's age so we can see the similarities, that would be fun! I'm so glad you found it!
ReplyDeleteWe have a cardigan too which is very precious. Glen's Grandma knitted a white baby cardigan for each of her grandchildren to give to their children when they were born. She knitted it before she passed away which was about 5 years ago. Will wore it quite a few times when he was about 5mths old and it is very special to us.
Hope you are having a great day,
Jxx
Janette - how nice both our bubs have worn a special cardigan :) What a lovely gesture of Glen's grandma. I had planned on finding a photo of me wearing the cardigan to post, but my photo cupboard is in a state of chaos at the moment!
ReplyDeletePS - I'm now going to hold onto a couple of special pieces. Good for the reminder. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cardi.
ReplyDeleteHaving kids was never at the forefront of my mind so it didn't occur to me to save anything.
In hindsight I think it is a shame and I get a real kick out of friend's kids playing with or wearing something that had a history.
What a beautiful cardigan - perfect for such a beautiful wee girl. My mum made a lot of our clothes when we were little and she has them all stored in a chest in her bedroom. Hopefully one day they'll be worn again x x
ReplyDeleteHi mate, the little miss looks so cute in those pics, in such a sweet cardi! Funny... we all must save cardi's as we have a 'family cardi' too, and it was hand made by my Nanna out of the thinnest, softest crochet wool I have ever felt! I was so sad when Willow outgrew it.. so now I'm saving it for their kids.

So pleased you found it Amanda...very cute.
ReplyDeleteI have a flower girls dress I wore to a relatives wedding when I was just 5 years old. I should do a post on it shouldn't I?
It's a mettalic fabric and was considered very classy way back then, or at least I thought so.
I'd better take a pic of it.

Oh, isn't that lovley! Great that you found it Amanda.
ReplyDeleteMy little neice has been adpoting all sort of things from my parents that were mine or my sisters when we were little. Mostly toys, little chairs and table :)
Grace is gorgeous Amanda and yes, I used have a crocheted baby blanket that became our daughters pram blanket.
ReplyDeleteGrace looks SO sweet in it! x
ReplyDeleteGrace looks adorable and so pretty in the cardigan. My Mum gave me some pretty cardigans and some little smocked dresses from when I was a baby when I had my daughters. I treasure them.
ReplyDeleteShe looks so gorgeous in that. I made the kids' christening gown out of my wedding dress so I'm hoping that gets handed down eventually. And I still have a crochet matinee jacket in a silky thread that was mine. I'm thinking of framing it.
ReplyDeleteit is a beautiful cardi and looks still to be in such good condition! i have lots of stuff, my dad is a serial hoarder :) favourite picture books, favourite toys, i'm sure there is some baby clothes somewhere but that would have been mum's department and she is a serial chucker! fingers crossed there are!
ReplyDeleteKerry - I LOVE the idea of a christening gown being made out of the fabric from a wedding dress!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous cardigan - it actually looks really modern now. I'm planning to use my christening gown for my babies (if i'm blessed enough to have any) Its a family heirloom.
ReplyDeleteLovely post

Hi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo of Grace with her precious cardi.
My mum kept many things of mine so when I finally was blessed with the gift of a baby daughter, I received many of these treasures - one special item is a hand knitted white ribbon handbag - Sophie just loves going shopping with me, proudly displaying her bag, just like Mummy!
Also, thanks for the tip on the market at Claremont next week - I look forward to visiting it.
Best wishes, Christine
Oh Grace looks so very cute! Just as well she didn't wear it on Sunday amongst the BBQ Shapes flying in all directions!

Hi sweet Amanda! I think that is absolutely precious that Grace has something you wore when you were a little one... it's adorable!
ReplyDeletegorgeous! love a good little hand knit!
ReplyDeleteThat is the most beautiful little cardigan..I'm saving some of the girls' things for their children (if they have girls!) but I don't have anything of mine. My mother threw out everything I'd ever owned..not a nice person! Have a lovely weekend..Rachaelxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sweater!!! It's so nice that your mom kept it! My mom made a dress when I was a baby and I think she kept it all these years, but I never had a chance to get a hold of it or put it on my girls. I must ask if she still has it. Your daughter is adorable! She looks like a doll.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found your special cardigan for Grace I can imagine how important it would have been for Grace to be able to wear something that you wore as a baby too.:) I don't have anything from when I was little but I've kept lots of things for the girls like their homecoming outfits and all the knitted jumpers my mother in law has made, I'm a bit sentimental.
ReplyDeleteYour Grace looks so sweet in the jumper I'm glad she was able to wear it. xo
