One Year Ago

One year ago today I received the news that upturned my happy little world - my dear Dad had passed away. At age 56, he had suffered a sudden heart attack.

One year later, I still miss my Dad's calls to check on us, his genuine interest in what we'd been up to and most of all, his big warm hugs. I know he would have shared with great excitement seeing Grace growing and changing and all the milestones she has reached. Not a day has gone by in this past year when I haven't thought about him.

The photo above from when I was a teenager is one of my favourite photos of us two and sits framed on our study desk where I can see it each day and remember how precious life is and how important it is to let our loved ones know how much they mean to us... I'm glad my Dad knew how much we cared...

  1. Although it's been a year since losing your Dad, I know how fresh it must still feel for you my dear. I lost my Dad 10 years ago next month, and whilst I still wish he was here more than anything (esp. now with BB on the way) it does get a little easier as time passes. And you're right, the main thing is that your Dad knew or should I say knows how much you love him. I hope today is not filled with too much sadness but more of beautiful memories. Big hugs, Son xo

  13. Hi Amanda... I am so sorry you have had to go through that heartbreak. I understand the daily sruggle, and especially the first year, it can still seem so unbelieveable.

I hope our Dads are up there somewhere, sitting together, looking down on their little girls...blogging away..

  17. Today is obviously going to be difficult for you Amanda but it does get easier. I lost my Dad when I was 20 and 23 years later I still think of him every day but it's not painful any more - I just tell my children how much he would have loved them and funny stories from my childhood. Even though they never met him they still feel that he is a part of their lives. Silly I know but it helps me!
Hope today isn't too painful for you x

  35. Amanda, This is such a touching post as I lost my dad a year and a half ago to lymphoma cancer. My daughter was only 6-1/2 months old and it is still very hard for me. I wish you strength and some peace in this as time comes. My best,
