What Was I Thinking?

Have you ever bought something only to find yourself thinking weeks or months later down the track, "what was I thinking?"  For me, it was the pyjamas above.  Before winter last year, back when I was pregnant and my belly was rapidly expanding, I realised I desperately needed some 'larger' PJs to see me through the winter months until I was due.

Wandering through Peter Alexander one day, the pattern above caught my eye.  Its 'Nana-ish', floral fabric, resembled a cross stitch embroidered piece and lured me in.  The pants were the 'wide-leg' style I've always found so comfortable and the top nice and baggy and accommodating for my bump.  However, these PJs were SO not me.  They were bright and loud and the complete opposite to the style of clothes I am normally drawn to.

Back at home when I put them on for the first time and said to Paul, "what do you think of my new pyjamas?" his response was, "okay if you want to wear curtains to bed".  I was given a similar comment by Mum and her partner one night when they saw me wearing them.  The only person who seemed to like my purchase was Grace who told me they were 'very pretty'.  But, I loved my PJs nonetheless.  They saw me through my week in the maternity hospital with Sophie and have been cosier than any I've ever owed before.

As the cooler nights hit a few months back and I found myself searching for something warmer to wear to bed, I had a 'what was I thinking' moment.  Paul couldn't believe it had taken me this long to see the light.  This week, I bought a new pair.  They are light grey with pale pink polka dots and MUCH more like the type of thing I would normally go for.

So tell me, have you ever had a 'what on Earth was I thinking' moment about something you've purchased?  Do share...

  1. Ha! That's hilarious. I bought a dress last year that is way too big for me - makes me look like a big dowdy sack of potatoes. At least you can blame your pregnant brain... I had no excuse!! xx

  3. I suffer from buyers remorse all the time - sometimes it is the day I buy something and sometimes down the track after I see a photo of me in something I thought was fabulous but actually quite revolting. Peter Alexander has seem me through previous pregnancies too - wide leg pants teamed with plain long sleeve top. I quite like your floral number there, I'm sure it would look better than my current PJ's bing my hubby's black tracksuit pants - noice! xx

    1. I have buyer's remorse all the time too :) I always doubt myself and wish I wasn't so indecisive. With these PJs, it's more that they are nothing like me at all in terms of colour and pattern :)

  4. Oh my gosh! I do this all the time. I'll decide that I need to get outside of my comfort zone and I always seem to regret it when I do!

  5. haha, i have a pair of rather large pregnancy pyjamas by peter alexander of my own that are in a drawer!! -- and you know why i think we bought them?? -- because i thought that they wouldn't show baby spew stains when i was in the hospital...and the bright pattern would somehow make me look brighter and alive when i hadn't had any sleep (or wearing any make-up) with a newborn!

whether it worked or not, i don't know...but it did make me feel good at the time :)

  6. Last week I bought a brown leather pair of gloves. I had been searching for my black suede ones all week and became quite desperate in the cold snap. So I got some shiny brown ones, and would you believe it, the very next day the old black favourites reappeared.

  13. Perfect timing, i spent the weekend sorting out some clothes & i'm pretty sure the charity shops will be doing the "what was this girl thinking" too. My husband is very tame about commenting on jammies, as i love them (Peter Alexander gets it right most of the time) & he wears them too (the Squirrels & Pirates this Winter, Pirates match our son's too, gorgeous) but otherwise I've purchase a few strange jammies in my time too, during pregnancy, at least post partum they make you feel thin again, love Posie

  15. Wow, they are loud! Perhaps you can refashion them into something dress up for Grace? I'm sure the back of that top would turn into an awesome rose patterned cape!

I've had a few what was I thinking thoughts over the years but I remember my first one very well. Year 7 graduation, I picked out a pretty floral dress from Kmart, in much the same loudness as your pjs. Got to the night and tried to refuse to wear it but mum made me. Everyone else was in jeans and casual clothes. :(

  16. If you could see how many things in my wardrobe still have tags on them.. I'm not a good shopper. Those PJs are pretty bold! I like the sound of your new ones. I don't wear PJs, even in winter, I find them too uncomfortable - the pants always end up above my knees and the top all twisted! Have a lovely weekend..Rachael xx
