Homely One House Tour - Lounge and Dining

This room has taken us the longest to get around to decorating and until fairly recently, was actually empty. Even once we got furniture, this room was hardly ever used. However now, I am in here every day as being carpeted, it’s a better room for Grace to play with her toys and our couch is the perfect place for me to relax with a cuppa and a magazine.

We have the main pieces of furniture like sofas and tables but there are lots of things still missing from this area. I am currently on the hunt for a cabinet for the spot where the packing boxes currently are and I’d like to move the chest near the entrance out of this room and have a feature chair of some sort in this spot. At present, our lounge room walls are bare so artwork is desperately required as well as display items. as with the bedrooms, we will get new carpet when Grace is a bit older.

The little white side table has only had a coat of primer so far – I am still deciding on what colour to paint it – any suggestions?

  3. You have some really nice space in these rooms and lots of decorting potential. I think the side table would look pretty painted a light blue to match the colour of your cushions.

  4. Amanda, gorgeous room with soft carpet:) Sometimes I miss carpet. Kellie's suggestion is a fabulous one. Wallpaper would look great and there are so many designs and colours out there. I love your sofas and can imagine how lovely it is for you to sit with a cuppa and a mag:) Thanks again for sharing more of your beautiful home. ~ Tina x

  5. Amanda, you've got the bones of the room sorted, now you're up to the fun part. You have the perfect neutral background on which to layer colour and texture, so take your time finding things you love to put your stamp on the space. Maybe paint the table in a favourite colour - you can send it to another room if you feel like a change.
    Thanks for sharing your pics

  6. What a nice, sunny space! I agree, maybe some nice, stylish wallpaper? I am a bit the same in my lounge, bare walls which is frustrating for an artist. Just before I opened your page I was staring at the bare spot above the mantle thinking about making a piece of art for it.
    Have a lovely week! x

  8. Really...your upto the fun part..because the room itself is perfect..the furniture you have fits in really well..just needs some colour, different textures and prints I think. I love that little side table...I suppose the safest colour to go would be white as it will always fit it..but I was thinking turquoise...I know I know..big risk..but you seem to always mention how much you love that colour ..but havent gone down that road yet..I say...take a risk and do it! I love the stool I ended up painting turquoise...Im so glad I went with it...and yours will still tie in with the blue cushions you have. I also think that stool painted turquoise and placed in your bathroom would look gorgeous too.

thats my input...are you sick of it yet? lol x

  11. Hi Amanda! I'm enjoying looking through your blog. Your house is so lovely and seems to have so much natural light. I think almost any shade of blue or turquoise or of course white would be great! I totally agree about how sometimes it is nice to have carpet with little ones..
    Enjoy the hunt!

  12. Hi Amanda,
I was honestly about to suggest turqoise for the little table. I am a realy stickler for just cream all over the house but am definitely going to paint a piece of furniture turquoise this year. I love it. My husband thinks I'm having him on but it's going to happen.
You've got the important bits in your room - my advice is to stick with that until you find the right pieces to give it your personality. Why don't you have a go at making a sign for your walls or putting a load of photographs on one wall!

  13. Thanks for all your suggestions :) I have a real thing for 'aqua' at the moment, so a turquoise colour might be the way to go for my little table x
