Girls’ Bedrooms Inspiration

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you've all had a lovely Easter break with your families and not eaten too many Easter eggs!  Anyway, onto this week...

On Wednesday, I will be FINALLY sharing some photos of Grace’s 'big girl room', something I’ve been promising you all for ages now. However, before I do, I thought I’d share a few images that inspired this little makeover to give you an idea of the vision I have had this whole time. Since the rest of our house has a casual/gender neutral vibe, I wanted Grace’s room to be girly and pretty with lots of handmade touches… On my list was…

…a patchwork quilt, sewn by me – I’ve always loved this gorgeous one above made by Kelly McCaleb with its myriad of patterns and colours and a simple design…

…a vintage style bed…or more recently, an antique bed head…

…a place to display the many trinkets and treasures little girls collect…

...a mix of ‘old’ and ‘new’

I’ve come across some great posts recently on decorating children’s bedrooms which you should read if you are about to embark on such a project. Steph’s article on ‘10 Stylish Children’s Bedroom Ideas’ gives some great tips as does ’10 “Somethings” Every Child’s Room Should Have’ over at Apartment Therapy. I discovered both of these after having completed Grace’s room but am happy to see that I’ve pretty much covered these tips anyway.

Pop back Wednesday to see some photos of Grace’s room…

  4. I love that last pic :) Ella wants a room makeover, so I too am looking for inspiration :) I kind of know what I want to create....but then when I throw all her toys & loved 'stuff' in....the whole decor plan doesn't quite mesh anymore. Make sense? :)))

    1. I only found that last picture fairly recently, otherwise I think I would have based Grace's whole room on it because it's so lovely!! Check out the link to see more gorgeous photos of that room. I totally understand what you mean about 'stuff' - especially when everything girlie is pink :) For Grace's room, I've tried to create a room with several colours so nothing she wanted to display looked out of place. I didn't want to be saying "that can't go on your shelf because it's the wrong colour" :) we keep lots of toys and books in our family room too so I didn't have to store everything in Grace's bedroom.

  8. Gone are the days of me having any say in how our daughter's room is decorated as is the way with most teens but we will soon be moving Kaizer in with Dawson and I can't wait to get started on giving it a makeover :)

    1. I was thinking yesterday as I sat in Grace's room taking photos how one day, she'd probably want to decorate her space herself :)

    1. Thanks Julia! A lot of hard work went into that quilt as I'm not an expert seamstress by any means. Will look forward to seeing your daughter's room too :)
