Yesterday, we had a day of birthday celebrations for me, or more accurately, an 'un-birthday'. Today is my actual birthday, but seeing as Grace has kindy on Tuesdays, I decided to pretend yesterday was my special day for her sake. There was present opening in bed, a family breakfast at a cafe in East Fremantle and tea at the local pub for us four, complete with a 'happy birthday' serenade all the way home.
Today, has been an equally wonderful day. Besides being my actual birthday, today is officially Paul's first day of over two months long service leave. Knowing how eager I am to sort out our home office makeover, he suggested we take a trip to Ikea. We headed there for a wander this morning, unfortunately returning home empty handed however, needing to do a bit more measuring before any purchases are made.
Anyway, after my post the other day reflecting on my decade between birthdays, I wanted to share with you a poem in one of the lovely birthday cards I received. The words just seemed so fitting...
When you find beauty in the world around you
And satisfaction in the place you've earned,
When you prevail, though challenges surround you,
And take the best from each hard lesson learned,
When you reach out to share the joys of living
And look with hope upon each new day's start,
When you remain both trustful and forgiving
And keep your cherished friendships close in heart,
When you still feel the proud anticipation
Of precious dreams and goals worth striving toward,
Then every birthday is a celebration
And every coming year its own reward.
Happy Unbirthday Amanda

Happy Birthday Amanda, it sounds like you have had a wonderful time celebrating. xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Amanda! I like to stretch a birthday out a bit so it sounds like you are having a nice birthday week. Boy oh boy, a man that actually suggests you go to IKEA??? What a gem!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sarah xx
Happy birthday! Can't believe you got a birthday trip to IKEA and came home empty handed, I am proud (and jealous - I always walk away with something). How exciting, two whole months of family time. I bet there is going to be lots happening to your place during that time, can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteWe came home empty handed because one thing we needed wasn't in stock and so Paul decided that was a sign we should hold off on everything :) He's since been back up and bought it all though :)
DeleteHappy Birthday Amanda!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that poem. Such beautiful words.

Happy Birthday beautiful girl!! xxx
ReplyDeleteThe title of your post now has me singing "The Unbirthday Song" from "Alice In Wonderland" :)
happy happy birthday!!
ReplyDeleteit sounded like such a sweet and beautiful day -- i love that you changed the day so that it could be spent with grace. :) and the family breakfast together sounded wonderful...oh, to have your husband home on LSL for two months; such bliss!
just out of interest, what time did you go out for tea with the two little ones? we have been thinking about going out for an early dinner when my parents arrive...and thinking between 5.30pm/6pm...so am interested to hear what time you guys went with sophie. x
Tea for us is always early when we go anywhere with the girls - 5.30 or 6. We order something like garlic bread ASAP when we get there to keep the girls occupied though and try and order our meals as soon as possible too because Sophie gets fidgety. If we go out to tea, we do baths beforehand to make things easier when we get home. One tip, bring a 'child size' fork or spoon along to the restaurant (or ask for a cake fork)... Sophie is insistent she feed herself at the moment and the huge restaurant sized forks aren't very child-friendly :)
DeleteHappy Birthday! Hope it was a wonderful day ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Amanda! Wishing you many more, too!
