Night Owl Or Early Bird?

Before Grace was born, especially when I was pregnant, I used to be a real night owl. I loved working away into the late hours or curling up with a book, promising myself ‘just one more chapter’ before lights out. Since Grace has arrived, my daily routine has switched somewhat and now I love nothing more than getting out of bed early, just as the sun is beginning to cast it’s glow over our garden.

For me, this time of the day is my chance to sit at the computer, cup of tea in hand and do some blog browsing before Grace wakes. Following her morning feed, we sit out on the patio and have breakfast together and then Grace is more than happy to sit in her high chair watching me water the pot plants or hang out washing before we head out for the morning. It really is such a lovely time to be outside before the summer heat sets in for the day. How about you – are you a night owl or an early bird?

  1. Look at her, isn't she gorgeous!
Oh I am the same Amanda. In bed just after the kids and up with the sun. I too love the peace and quiet in the morning before the house stirs. I blog my little heart out and then hubby brings me a coffee and we contemplate the day on our front porch. Mornings are magical! A-M xx

  2. Amanda, I used to be a nightowl. Stayed out till all hours, sat up reading, partying or even working through the night...now, I'm in bed by 7.30(ish) and up at sparrows. I start work very early so am on the road before anyone else and I can listen to the radio to my hearts content. It's the same on the weekends. In bed reasonably early and up early to watch the day come into focus. Nothing better.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog, I appreciate them so much:) I have gone full circle from a night owl (pre-kids) to an early bird (have 3 girls) and now I am back at Uni, I am a night owl again (only chance I get to study)...! 5. I wish I could get up early but I've suddenly turned into a bit of a night owl. I find myself up until the small hours, blogging myself, or reading others beautiful blogs, there's so much inspiration out there and so little time!

  6. Like Tina I have come full circle too and as strange as it my seem I love to do both but always need to catch up on sleep as soon as the weekend arrives. My kidlets are 14 & 10 y.o twins so I have the luxury of being able to go to bed before them if need be (just takes a little bribe for the teenager to put her siblings to bed for me if I really need to) On sundays I am definately the last one out of bed. I love to excercise in the early morning but also love to sit on the deck late at night with a cup of tea and contemplate the world. Grace is lovely - being a mum is the best thing ever!

  9. Grace looks so cute there Amanda! I am definitely a night owl, a bit like you used to be just one more chapter before I turn the light off! I wish I was a morning person though I think that would be quite peaceful, it sounds like you have a great routine in the morning.

  10. Oh what a little doll she is...so smiley!
I actually love both...but would have to admit I am still more of a night owl...its my wind down time. But am up early with jacq also..and if I have had a good sleep..ie: jacq sleeping through..and hubby not snoring..then I am all energised.
Mornings are lovely..the air always seems fresh, crisp and clear and the sun so bright.

  11. It sounds like you have a lovely start to your day. Your little girl is so cute Amanda and your garden so beautiful and so green. I'm a bit of a night owl, I would rather get up early because I love that time of the day. I have got into a bad habit but I'm trying to get to bed early and so I get a bit of quiet time and have breakfast with my hubby.
