Cheerful Orchid

The past week in our house truly was the pits. Grace came down with a stomach bug which I then caught followed by Paul and then she got a terrible cold. 9pm visits to GPs, sleeping the night on Grace's bedroom floor, going without a meal other than crackers for four days and being confined to a house which desperately needed cleaning all made me wish more than ever we were all healthy again. I've decided we all need to boost our immune systems so any advice in that regard would be much welcomed.

To start this week off with something bright and cheerful, I thought I'd share with you all our beautiful orchid which is flowering away at present. To be honest, I haven't given it much care so when I saw that this year it had produced not one but two flower spikes, I was very surprised. It's nice to have something adding a splash of colour to the garden.

What is the stand out flower in your garden at the moment?

  2. Oh Amanda! It sounds like we had a parallel week last week. I think I had the same stomach bug (lost 2kgs which was great though) and then Will got a really bad cold/cough and is teething with a new molar and now Glen is getting Will's cold! It's never ending this winter isn't it! So I can totally sympathise. I'm hoping this week beings both our little households a bit more health and happiness my dear.
I was also desparate to get something to boost our immune system so I got Will 'Penta-vite' a multivitamin for kids in a liquid form and SHOCK he's happy to take it! And I got 'Olive leaf extract' for me and G to take which is meant to be a wonder drug type of natural thing that kids can also take but which Will hates.
Maybe give the Penta-vite a try?? It's only been 2 days of taking it so don't know if it's done/doing anything.
Sending you and Gracie Girl big HUGS,
    Jxx

  3. You poor things...you sound like you've had a dreadful time. I do hope that you're all on the mend. The orchid is beautiful. I have a couple that have produced a spike but they're rotting away before blooming...must be in the wrong place, or else they need some immune system boosting as well! Hope this week's much better Amanda.

  4. What a terrible week you have all had. I hope you are all recovering now and are feeling better. All the advice I can give is that the healthier you eat and the fitter you are the better your immune system. That involves the usual exercise and plenty of sleep. For young kids I remember that Nicholas got a lot of colds and bugs before he went to school as he was around a lot of other kids through playgroup and daycare however he was much better once at school compared to some of the other children who were sick a lot as they hadn't been around many other kids before and therefore picked up all of the bugs. I hope this week is much better for you. xx

  10. Hope you are all on the mend now, it's certainly not nice to have the whole family sick. Your orchid is stunning. I gave my orchid no love what so ever and he managed 3 spikes this year.

  11. You poor loves! I have been thinking of you all, hoping you had all recovered... not gotten worse! I really hope thats it for illnesses now.. everyone is being hit really hard this winter.
Your flower os so pretty, a nice splash of colour! My one and only is a grevillea, Honey Gem, and it is a beautiful orange flower, so heavy it is pulling the top of the shrub down!
    Stay well, sweet Amanda.

  12. I just LOVE orchids, they are my favy all-time flower. I have 2 yellow ones that flowered this year and were beautiful, except my slackness meant that there were little pests all over them, and the flowers didnt last as long as they normally should. My other, green orchid never flowered at all! Bummer!! I have a couple of fakey phaleonopsis orchids in my house too - love them. Have a great week, possum!

  13. Sounds like you have had a terrible week. Hope things get better soon. I love orchids. The jasmine has just started to come out here - it fills the house with a beautiful scent! It has been so warm in Brisbane lately the poor plant probably thinks it's Spring already! Michelle
