Changing Focus

This week, I’ve decided I need to focus on all the special things in my life I have to be thankful for and to stop letting 'the case of my disappearing tastebuds’ consume all my energy and thoughts. When I spotted this print by Erin Jane Art Prints on Etsy today, it definitely ‘spoke to me’ and so I thought it would be perfect to share in this post.

On Friday, I went to my GP to explain my taste dilemma in the hope of her being able to ‘wave her magic wand’ and offer me a solution only for her to say I had her baffled and she’d need to ‘Google it’ which was exactly what I’d been doing for the past week myself!! She has given me a referral to an ear, nose and throat specialist who I cannot get in to see until a month’s time and over the weekend, things really started to get to me. I do have the sense to put things in perspective and realise there are plenty of people in the world worse off than me and that I should be grateful for all the good things that surround me, I’d just love for someone to give me a date as to when my taste will return, or to at least reassure me that things will eventually go back to normal and I’ll be able to enjoy food again. In the meantime, I’ve decided to start thinking positive thoughts and to focus on other things and so I promise I won’t blog about this predicament any more until my taste returns.

So now that all that negativity is off my chest, let’s get on with the rest of the week! What lovely things do you all have planned?

  1. It must be frustrating Amanda. Food is such an enjoyable part of any day. Good on you for getting positive and changing focus. Love the print too. A lot of painting and cleaning as well as work on the farm and at the office for me this week. Hope yours is enjoyed with your family.

  2. oh dear, is it still not back? i have my fingers crossed the ENT can do something about it and hopefully the wait will pass quickly. like you say, you will have to focus on the good things to help the time pass. my good thing is that it's only 4 more days til school holidays and tonight i'm looking forward to dinner with my other half before he heads back off to perth after dinner to fly out tomorrow.

  4. That is a great quote!!!
I can totally understand that you want to know where that light at the end of the tunnel is, and don't worry about 'venting' on your blog - we're all here for you even if we're not physically 'there' in WA :)
It's a great attitude you've got to try and put it in perspective and it's something that I've been trying to do lately when things get me down. I hope that you can get into the ENT specialist a bit sooner and it can all be resolved, or will just suddenly fix up by it's self asap. Wishing you a fantastic, healthy, fun, happy week my dear. Big hugs to you gorgeous girl!

  8. I really hope your tastebuds return to normal soon Amanda! I have had that happen in the past when I've had a bad flu so I know that it can be really frustrating, especially if you're like me and love food! Good on you for focusing on the positives! I have started walking again in the mornings and am loving it! I am trying a little harder to see the beauty in everyday life around me and I find my morning walks get me off to a great start. Hope you have a lovely week with Grace and enjoy this beautiful weather we're having at the moment. xxx

  9. Oh Amanda, I can completely understand why that would get you down, I'd be the same because I enjoy cooking and eating so much. You have the right attitude though sometimes you have to make a big mental note not to get down. I hope things get better soon. Catherine xx

  11. Bizarrely my taste went for just over a day last week. Not at all the same as what you're dealing with but I was puzzled. It did come back quite quickly but I couldn't figure out what made it go away in the first place...crossing all my fingers for you that yours comes back promptly too!

  12. Hi sweet, you poor love, I can't believe that your taste is still not right!! That is not fun for you mate, and I totally understand that it will be making you a lttle crazy...
My best suggestion would be to get out in that beautiful sunshine this week, soak up as much vitamin D as you can, and try to relax a little! Take care, and hi to your cheeky little monkey!

  13. I hope your taste will come back soon. I love to eat and when I have a stuffed nose and can't taste, I get so frustrated. Eating becomes not as fun. The quote is beautiful. I love it. Thanks for sharing it. I hope I'm learning how to dance in the rain as opposed to slipping around and falling. xo Kaho
