Happiness Is Found In Little Things

The title of this post is borrowed from my childhood Hollie Hobbie mug which I took on a picnic with Grace earlier in the week and it sums up my week (post trolley incident) perfectly. After a few mishaps, the latter part of the week was free from plans so Grace and I have been enjoying time together outdoors in the sunshine.

Yesterday we packed our rug, thermos and morning tea and had a picnic at a park together. We enjoyed our goodies, fed the ducks and played on the swings. Grace's comment of "Mummy, I so like having picnics" has made this outing something I hope to do more often.

Today we headed to the river with our beach towel and bucket. Although the water was choppy, Grace loved running up and down along the sand collecting shells in her bucket and I soaked up the sunshine as I enjoyed a milkshake and watched her.

Another thing that has made me happy this week includes my slightly cleaner house. My Mum came over on her day off to help me clean and organise our place as I had gotten myself into a bit of a rut and had the 'where do I start' dilema. Mum was fantastic. She got stuck into things, had me feeling motivated and left my place looking much tidier than before. Now I just have to keep it that way.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend...

  1. So glad you enjoyed the sunshine! We've just turned cold again here after a week of almost summer! Gracie looks so cute in her sunhat having a picnic. And I'm glad your Mum was there to help you with the house, it does get that way doesn't it, 'where do I start' all too easily - esp with a toddler around :) Have a lovely weekend my dear and I hope the sunshine continues for you!

  4. I adored Holly Hobbie (squeals)!!!! I had a dress... a lunch box with the coolest matching thermos.... still cranky at my Mum for not saving it for me! All I can say to her is it is a good thing that I had boys!! So pleased that the week has ended on a happier note for you as well. Well done on getting stuck into the housework too! xx

Should add that she did keep my Holly Hobbie sheet set! x

  5. Glad to hear that the week has improved so much for you - it has been a week of glorious weather, Sophie and I have been enjoying the playgrounds on her non-kindy days, soaking up the sunshine with my Mum on her visit from wet and shivery Melbourne!

best wishes for a lovely weekend too,
    Christine xo

  6. Can you send your mum to me next!! I feel like 'nesting' but have no energy. It's nice for you to spend some special time alone with Grace before she becomes a big sister x x

  7. What a lovely mum! Glad to hear you are in the rut no longer. Looks so nice at your beach...can't wait till the weather stays warm.
(Although I am sure I'll be regretting those words when I'm a million months pregnant and sweating!)
    Have a great weekend :)

  8. We love a good picnic over here. I had a Holly Hobbie doll as well as various other trinkets. I still have her too. On my small plate it says "Start each day in a happy way". I love that.x

  10. You're such a great Mum Amanda, taking Grace on so many nice outings together and building happy memories together. I've also enjoyed the last week since finishing work, to have no plans and just enjoying our time alone together at home before the baby comes along. Lots of baking together, doing puzzles, gardening, picnics out the back etc.
Love your little mug, I saved my Peter Rabbit mug from childhood but I also loved the Holly Hobby theme, my room had the HH bedspread, light shade and curtains. Still have the pillowslip but it's looking pretty tired these days! Have a great weekend.

  11. Hi Amanda, just popped over to your blog from Silver Threads of Happiness.. I too loved Holly Hobbie as a little girl, still have my little doll in the cupboard (which needs a little tlc). Picnics by the water are the best, and her smile says it all! xxSam
