Homely One House Tour - The Patio
Time for some outdoor shots today. Our patio is the newest renovation we have carried out. Our biggest issue in this space was the ‘garden bed’, otherwise known as the ‘sand patch’ which ran along the windows of the house. With Asha, this sand became a real nuisance as she would lie in it and drag it all over the pavers, causing them to look dirty (not that they were attractive paving bricks in the first place). Here are some shots of the old area...
We did contemplate decking, but as our priority was for something hardwearing and also low maintenance, we stuck with the clay bricks. We repaved right up to the windows in a darker, more uniform shade which seems to flow on better from our floorboards inside to create a more seemless look. We also replaced the old, discoloured roof sheeting and a few sagging beams before Paul gave it all a fresh coat of paint.
Once again, some homely touches are needed out here. I would love a cute pot with some pretty flowers for the table and in the corner where the potplants are, I am picturing a deck chair like the ones from Ici et La where I could relax with a cuppa and a magazine. What lovely things do you have in your own outdoor areas that create that ‘homely’ feel?

The patio looks great, we have been working on ours and it is such a lot of work. We are still to replace our pergola but I think that we will have to wait until spring now. The new coat of paint does wonders and removing the garden bed and built in BBQ (?) has really opened the space up.

Hi Nellie - you'll love it when you eventually complete your outdoor area, makes the whole space more inviting and you'll find you use it heaps more too. Yes, removing the old built-in BBQ has definitely created more area, even the garden seems bigger now. Unfortunately I lost my little herb garden plot but I am slowly re-establishing it in another part of our garden.
ReplyDeleteWow Amanda! These house tours are so fantastic, thank you so much for sharing!! I love your outdoor patio, what a wonderful space! It looks so big now you have paved right to the windows and your grass looks like a gorgeous green carpet!!! I would love to have an outdoor space like this to enjoy. At the moment I sit on the bottom front step to enjoy our outdoors:) You guys have done an incredible job, it is gorgeous! ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina! All credit for our lawn must go to Paul :) I really enjoy sitting outdoors now, especially early in the mornings which is nice because I wasn't motivated to use this spot before.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, you've made a really good improvement. It looks like a lovely spot to sit. I'd like a pair of white Adirondack chairs to relax in with a nice cuppa :)
ReplyDeleteThat patio and backyard is far too perfect
ReplyDelete; )...I wish I was a dog just so I could go and roll around on that lawn..lol

What a nice patio area Amanda!!! You've really opened it up and the new roofing makes it look so much fresher and newer. I agree with Tina, your lawn looks like you could sleep on it all flat, soft and cozy! Loving these posts! Janette x

Looks great! I don't think I will ever build a deck again, so I am with you there :) We have been coating our deck with a water based varnish and it smells like cat pee - ew! Are they frangipanis in your backyard, they look beautiful. Lovely big backyard.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so much more open now that you have re-paved the area, and it's looks nice and fresh. You have a beautiful outlook onto your green grass and garden, so nice and inviting. Thanks for showing us your lovely home.xo
