Dreaming Of A Holiday…

Lucky duck Paul got to spend the last three days in Sydney for a manager’s retreat. Whenever we’ve been to Sydney in the past, we’ve had a great time staying at the Swissotel, wandering around Paddington and its surrounding suburbs and soaking up as much of this wonderful city as we could.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more and more about holidays – about staying somewhere with luxurious bedding, enjoying the novelty of eating most meals out and exploring the towns and cities we visit. We haven’t had a holiday since our family holiday in January last year so between now and October, we’re hoping to head down south to a few little towns, just the three of us before our new baby arrives.

The photo above is of one of my favourite places (besides the Swissotel) which we stayed at in Launceston back in 2007 when we travelled around Tasmania – Kurrajong House. It was such a character filled home, decorated beautifully with lots of antiques and surrounded by a gorgeous garden.

Do you have a favourite place you’ve stayed at in the past? I’d love for you to share…

  1. Hi Amanda, I've just sent my parents the link for Kurrajong House, as they are going to Tasmania in September and currently booking B&B accommodation. Would love to know if you have any more tips on beautiful places in Tasmania, so I can let them know.
Just thinking back over my travels, our favourite B&B would definitely have to be 'The Peppertree' in Marlborough, New Zealand. www.thepeppertree.co.nz/ It was the most beautiful cottage with several rooms overlooking stunning gardens with cherry blossoms, roses etc. It's set on a huge vineyard and also has an olive grove. The hosts were lovely and cooked a delicious breakfast (everything homemade - jams etc) and even the choc-chilli cookies in the cookie jar in the room were homemade. The surrounding area had wineries such as Cloudy Bay, Wairu River, St Clair, etc. Would love to go back one day!

  2. What a gorgeous house, like Kath above I'm going to forward Kurrajong House to my parents as they are also planning to go to Tassie later in the yr. I'd love to go, it all look so beautiful. And my cousin lives in Hobart (as well as Jane and Sarah who it would be nice to see in 'real life'). I hope Paul had fun in my home town. And I think it's so important to have holidays, they get you so relaxed. We were just talking about our next break this evening too!

  3. I've been dreaming of holiday too Amanda. Everyone I know seems to be going to Fiji, Thailand or hawaii....I'm craving some warmth and palm trees. We are off the NZ in Aug for some skiing with some of Paul's old Kiwi friends, such a lovely trip but I AM craving palm trees at the moment. Enjoy your little trip of three, sounds lovely.

  5. Kurrajong House looks stunning. I don't tend to stag in fancy places as I'm always on too much of a budget but I like the character of daggy hotels. Years ago I went to Cairns with my mother and sister and we stayed at a great place in Palm Cove that had 9 pools. I couldn't believe my eyes!
I hope you are well xx

  6. A holiday before the baby arrives sounds lovely Amanda, I love exploring new places, discovering new things. Our last holiday was in Tasmania and I loved it, my favourite place was Ross, the buildings were beautiful. Noosa is another lovely place we enjoy and Byron Bay, the light house view was gorgeous. I hope you are having a wonderful week. xo

  8. I can't go away on holidays this year unfortunately and its killing me, I really need something to look forward to. My work is sending me to Syndey in October for a few days so thats something I'm hoping I get some time for a little shopping :) Otherwise, I might have to settle for a trip down south on the next long weekend.

  9. Kath - We didn't stay in any other B&Bs there, the rest of the places were self contained places from memory. As for 'must sees' - we loved Cataract Gorge, had a great time in Hobart, liked the town of Ross (very blink and miss it but had a gorgeous bakery!!) as well as Richmond, Evandale, Latrobe... so many to mention!! There was an awesome maze we went to next to a Lavendar Farm too - gorgeous scenery there but can't for the life of me think of the town. The Peppertree B&B where you stayed looks SO nice - had a browse at their site.

Janette - would be so nice to catch up with our Tassie blogger friends :)
