"A portrait of my children, once a week every week in 2013"

Grace:  A pupil free day on Friday came at just the right time for our tired girl (there are still two weeks until school holidays).  As a treat, us three girls had lunch in Fremantle, followed by a play on the esplanade.

Sophie:  Yet another cold for our little chicken... the cycle of winter sickness seems never-ending in our household at the moment.  Fortunately, swings and sunshine brought back that sweet smile...

Last week I smiled at this sweet bub having a summer splash, Sammy's museum visit and Melinda's darling little pirate girl...

  1. Those holidays end up being so needed by the end of term, I'm glad Grace had a little break, it sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day:) Poor little possum getting another cold, I hope she feels better soon. xxx

    1. Having no kindy since Wednesday has made the world of difference to her... she was so teary at home last week and touchy. Over the weekend, she's gone back to her usual happy self :)

  2. I hate the endless colds and sickness that winter brings too. Kids are so resilient and really still want to have fun don't they. Hope she feels better soon. Still 2 weeks of school for us too here in Tassie.

  4. It is obvious in the photos you post each week that your girls are having the happiest of childhoods. Beautiful to see. Just a suggestion for you with Grace ... have you considered keeping her at home one day a week? My neighbour's daughter found the first year of school very overwhelming and tiring and my neighbour discussed this with the teacher and they agreed it would be in her best interest to stay at home every Wednesday. The teacher made sure that there wasn't anything too significant scheduled on Wednesdays to accommodate her so she wouldn't feel too left out. It made all the difference to her daughter. My neighbour always made sure they had a quiet day at home just pottering around. She returned to full time sometime during the last semester of the year to prepare her for the following year. Her daughter is now in Grade 4 and is doing extremely well at school. I know you know what's best for your girl but I just thought I'd suggest it.

    1. Hi Nik, thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. At the moment, Grace is only at kindy which is only two days one week, three days the following week. The two day weeks are definitely easier for her than the three day ones when I can sense her tiredness and notice she is touchier. I often worry how she will find pre-primary next year which is five days a week full-time (compulsory schooling). At the moment, we balance our days as best we can. On the two day kindy week, the remaining days are kept simple and usually spent pottering around the house with perhaps an outing to get a milkshake or a play at a friend's house. On the three day kindy week however, I make sure Grace's remaining days are very low key indeed and spent at home. Anything more than that is too overwhelming for her...
